Discover the rich heritage of Glodok through the journey of the Tian Family, who arrived in Batavia (now Jakarta) in the early 20th century as Chinese immigrants from Fujian Province. In this walking tour, we’ll trace the family’s migration, settlement, beliefs, and perseverance in the Glodok community throughout different political periods–from the 1930s until today.
Glodok’s alleys have long been quiet spectators of history. Some stories are brighter than the rest, some are heavier to hold. In this walk through time, we’ll uncover how shifting political situations have been shaping the facades and soul of the neighbourhood—from 1740, 1965, 1998, until today.
