Moments
When we talk about moments, we often look back – losing ourselves in the past and forgetting that moments are born in the present. They unfold here and now, shaping the memories we'll carry into tomorrow.
"Moments" is created through a process of call and response during Metta Setiandi's Artist Residency program at ESA. It's an ongoing exchange of ideas and emotions. The final artwork was never predetermined; instead, it evolved organically through the chemistry between Metta and the ESA Family, each responding to the other in a continuous flow of creation.
The choice of materials and colors stemmed from meaningful conversations. The deep green hues in the piece were made from Kemangi Oil, a staple oil in ESA’s kitchen, that is made communally by chefs, hand picked one by one and then turned into oil. The color green also holds personal significance, as one of the few colors Chef Aditya Muskita can perceive as someone who is partially colorblind.
On March 19th, ESA and Metta invited friends and family to participate in the creation of a new artwork. On a blank canvas, Metta performed live, spreading clay and imprinting banana leaves onto the new and evolving piece. The final artwork is now up for auction.
